Why environmental health is also a wellbeing issue.

When conversations about wellbeing take place, the focus is often on individuals their mental health, physical health, relationships, and personal choices.

Yet wellbeing is also shaped by something much larger: the environment.

The quality of the air we breathe, the water we drink, the food we consume, and the spaces we inhabit all influence our health and quality of life. Environmental conditions affect not only physical wellbeing, but also mental wellbeing, social wellbeing and community resilience.

This is why environmental protection is more than a conservation issue. It is also a human wellbeing issue.

Communities experiencing pollution, environmental degradation, poor sanitation or climate-related challenges often face increased health burdens and reduced opportunities to flourish. In contrast, healthy environments support healthier people, stronger communities, and more sustainable futures.

At AMORE, we view wellbeing through a systems lens. Human wellbeing is not shaped solely by individual choices. It is influenced by the systems, structures and environments that surround people every day.

World Environment Day provides an important reminder that the wellbeing of people and the wellbeing of the planet are deeply connected. Creating healthier environments is not only about protecting nature, it is also about creating the conditions that allow individuals and communities to thrive.

Healthy environments support healthy lives.

And healthy lives contribute to healthier communities.

The two cannot be separated.
